PERCHERON HORSE
Two equine breeds with French origins have made significant contributions to horse breeding in North America – the Canadian and the Percheron. Having been imported in the 1800s, the Percheron was once the most popular draft horse across the continent.
Percheron Horse
Percherons are a versatile breed that has gained popularity in several countries. Breeding and conservation of Percherons in North America and by the National Stable in France has improved their status, and the global population exceeded 32,000 as of 2013. We are grateful for the strong conservation efforts in the country of origin, and applaud the work of American breeders in promoting the breed.
Percheron horses graduated from The Livestock Conservancy’s priority list in 2013.
