Want to create some fuzzy fashion for your fingers? Do you know the basics of knitting or crocheting? Join us for the Mighty Mitten Challenge! Support the Shave 'Em to Save 'Em (SE2SE) Initiative and The Livestock Conservancy while creating mittens or fingerless gloves. The Mighty Mitten Challenge will kick off March 10 and end March 31.
Make a pair of mittens using wool from a rare breed of sheep on the Conservation Priority List. You can use wool that is already in your stash, so if you are a current SE2SE Fiber Artist who spun up roving as an official SE2SE project, you can use that yarn for your mittens. If you don’t have any rare breed yarn, you can buy it from SE2SE fiber providers listed in our Breeders and Products Directory.
Each Wednesday evening for four weeks, author and rare wool enthusiast, Deb Robson will guide us through making a pair of mittens. It could be your first pair of mittens, or you lost count a long time ago. We will provide multiple knit and crochet mitten patterns, including fingerless and fold over, but you are free to use another pattern you prefer.
Join us in the Mighty Mitten Challenge Facebook Group just for Mitten Challenge participants where Deb will offer a livestream lesson every Wednesday evening at 7 PM EST, March 10-31. Deb will lead us through different mitten-making topics each week including: needles, yarn gauges & patterns, fabric structures (plain, rib, lace, color work, thrumming), and top-down and bottom-up techniques. Be sure to bring your questions.
*Note: After you register for the challenge, you'll receive an invitation to be a participant in the Mitten Challenge Facebook group.
